Makayla & Madison
We are high school students who believe in serving God by serving others. Bundles of Joy is more than just an organization; it is our purpose.
Our mission began when we noticed how fast the homeless population was increasing in our area. We decided to take initiative and find a way to help aid the people who are struggling in our community. We were able to fundraise money to purchase supplies to assemble and deliver 50 care packages to a local homeless shelter. Our current project will allow us to deliver 100 bundles to an underprivileged community in Mexico.
When we began our project in December of 2024, we found in the official census that around 30,809 people were homeless in the state of Florida and 653,104 in the United States.
Specifically in the Lee County area in 2023, there were 862 people struggling with homelessness which was a 40% increase from the previous year where there was 394 people experiencing homelessness.
In the Lee County area, common factors contributing to the rise of homelessness include the affordable housing crisis, high rent rates, and even the impact of weather conditions, such as hurricanes. There has been an increase in senior citizens and single parents experiencing homelessness. The main effects of homelessness include health problems, chronic conditions (diabetes, heart disease, HIV/AIDS), increased risk of disability, poor mental health, PTSD, substance abuse, violence, and a higher chance of entering the criminal justice system.
When we first drafted our mission, we did not know how we could purchase the supplies for the bundles. We agreed to use a portion of each of our savings, however we knew it wouldn’t be enough to support our goal.
We decided to have a fundraising event to raise money for our mission. We reached out to a friend who owns a local coffee shop, and she was happy to help by allowing us to host at their location.

We were able to host the Line Dancing & Lattes event at Chocolattés Coffee Co. in Fort Myers, Florida. We taught line dances and received donations. Our goal was to make $200 dollars to put towards buying the supplies for the bundles, but we ultimately made up to just shy of $600. Thank you to Chocolattés for having us and thank you to all who came out to support us!

We came up with several items to put in each bundle and purchased them in bulk. The items above are included in each bundle.

We then packaged the bundles to prepare for delivery.
We delivered the bundles to St. Martin De Porres Community Outreach Center in Fort Myers, FL.
We chose this location because their mission is to serve others by providing food, care, shelter, education, and training. Our mission and their mission are both centered by faith and service.
We were able to bless fifty people who are struggling with homelessness. We accomplished our goal and are filled with gratitude. The experience showed us the importance of not taking anything for granted, and showed us how big of an impact we can make in our community.

We plan to double our last goal by delivering 100 bundles on our next mission. We are also extending our organization outside of the U.S. to help an underprivileged community in Mexico.
We are currently in contact with Amor Ministries, which is an organization that builds homes for families in Mexico for the purpose of serving others like Jesus did. We chose this organization because we share Christian values and are inspired by their impact.
We are currently brainstorming new ideas to fundraise this next mission and we intend to deliver the bundles this summer. You can follow us on social media (link at the bottom of our home page) for more updates and ways to get involved!
